Ministries

Along with our regular weekly worship services, we have Sunday School classes for all ages.  In the winter months we have a weekly adult Bible Study open to everyone.

Our church maintains regular visits to assisted living homes, and tries to minister to anyone in need.  We also participate in inter-community church activities.

King's Daughters is a women's organization that meets monthly, open to all.  They are expert quilt makers, among other things.

About a week after public school dismisses, we have a week long Vacation Bible School for ages five through the sixth grade.

The beautiful Palisades campground is leased from the Forest Service by our church.  We have built a lodge, a bathhouse, 11 cabins, and made other improvements.

We have a junior youth camp for those who have completed grades four through eight.  A youth camp is held for ninth and above.  These are held the first part of July, and are open to anyone willing to abide by our code of conduct of Christian behavior.  Recreational activities include challenging hikes and Snake River rafting.

Family Camp is always held during Labor Day weekend, and our worship service is held there also.  The camp, when not scheduled for for church activities, is available for rent to church members for family reunions or just vacation time.

Palisades Camp is about one mile below the Palisades Dam, and about two miles off Highway 26.  It is 125 miles from Aberdeen.  It is an unforgetable place.

PASTOR’S PEN FOR FEBRUARY AND MARCH 2012

During the last summer, our landscape has been changed.  The mountains above American Falls have wind generators on them.  I am told that 43 of them have been placed  in the area. They are quite an awesome sight to watch the huge three blade head rotating in the wind!  In addition, another sight to behold is in the evening when you look to the south of Aberdeen to see all the red lights coming on and off simultaneously! Folks, southeast Idaho is green! Idaho is known for its various kinds of power.  There is the Idaho National Laboratory near Arco which does atomic energy  research.  We have several dams built along the Snake River to produce electrical power. I hear of geothermal energy being used near Twin Falls and Boise.

We even live next to and some live in Power County, which was named after the American Falls power plant. We are surrounded by immense physical power.  All these different types of power have made and are making huge differences in our lifestyles.  Where would we be today without all our modern convinces? However, as I look around I see with all this availability of many different types of power, there is a severe power shortage in the area I am concerned about.

The power shortage I am referring to is spiritual power!  Christians have available to them the most powerful source of energy ever known to man- The Power of God.

God has been telling man for generations of His awesome power!

I Chronicles 29:12 “ In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.”

One day Jesus was speaking to the Sadducees, who did not believe in the resurrection, Jesus said, “You do not know the scriptures or the power of God” Matthew 22:29

That could be us!

Zechariah 4:6 says : This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbal:" not by might nor by power but by my spirit says the Lord of hosts.”  Zerubbal was the governor of the providence of Judah who led some 40,000 people back to Jerusalem after the Babylonian Captivity. Zerubbabel was also the one who laid the foundation for the second temple in Jerusalem.  The man could get things done!  In addition, God told him power does not come by physical might but by God’s Spirit. That is a good word from God for us!

I encourage you to look into these scriptures to see how you can utilize God’s power!

PASTOR’S PEN FOR DECEMBER-JANUARY- 2011-2012

A few weeks ago, we heard the announcement of the closing of the Aberdeen Simplot Potato Plant. It was quite a shock to our small town of Aberdeen, Idaho. The news that we have heard of folks losing their jobs in other parts of America has now HIT HOME! Now it is suddenly US, OUR relatives, OUR neighbors, OUR friends, who are facing an uncertain future!  Situations look different when it is US who are going through the hard times.

What might be our response?

What attitudes might we have? We can say all kinds of things like: “We do not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future.” But how can we be Jesus to those who are facing certain layoffs?

James comes to mind James 2:14-17: “What good is it my brothers, if a man claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is that? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Aberdeen community organizations are already in place: the Aberdeen Senior Center, the Aberdeen Food Bank, the American Legion, along with all our area churches.  Folks, these are services we already have in place!  Let’s use what we have!  Just as God asked Moses when he called him to lead the children of Israel out of the wilderness “What is in your hand?”  Exodus 4:1-17.  In other words  He asked Moses what  tools had already been given to him.

Here we have a golden opportunity in our community to show who we really are! What we are made off.  We have an opportunity as a church, as individuals to represent the love, care and compassion of Christ to our friends and neighbors and the world will be watching.  There used to be 13 churches in this town now there are just a handfull, and just a few people in each church.  But folks,  “Little is much when God is in it” (Mark 6:30-44). And God IS in this! Let us put our hearts and hands, together to help each other and give the Lord opportunity to work through us! And Aberdeen will become a stronger community because of it!  And God will be glorified!

May the Lord bless you this holiday season and make you a blessing to others

Your Pastor,

Jerry L. Kaiser
